oedipus rex

Part II

1.) "Poor children ! You may be sure I know all tahts you longed hat you are deathly sick; and yet, sick as you, not on is as sick as I. Each of you suffers in himself alone his anguish, not another's; but my sprit groans for the city, for myslef, for you." pg. 962 line#60-66

"Then once more I must bring what is dark to light. It is most fitting that Apollo shows, as you do, thus compunction for the daed. I shall seee how I stand by ou, as i should, to avenge the city an the city's god, and not as though it were for some distant friend, but for my own sake, to be rid of evil. Whoever killed King Laios might-who knows?-Decide at any moment to kill me as well. By avenfing the murdered king I protect myself.

2.) The external conflict is oedipus not knowing that he killed king laios, who is his father.
3.)Imagery gives the audience pictures and visual ideas of the conflict at thebes.
4.) Dramatic irony, tragedy, fate
5.)Although i skimmed over the chorus parts i think they're singing about their city and the difficulties and struggles they've been facing and having to deal with. Also hoping for something to happen to get rid of the curse or bad fortune that is come unpon this city since the kings death.

Part III
1.)Page 969, Lines 113-115
Page 969 lines 101-103
2.)The external conflict is the whole fact that Oedipus is the murderer , but says to punish the murderer whoever it may be. Also Teiresias discovers that Oedipus is the murderer which resolves in more conflict and argument.
3.)Page 970, Line 146
Page 970, Line 164
4.)The biggest and most obvious example of dramtic irony is that the reader/audiance knows that Oedipus is the murderer, but his character doesn't have any idea, at least not yet.
5.)Teiresias seems to be picking up on things and putting pieces of this puzzle together.
6.)The chorus now sings about the punishment of the murderer, and the fact that the guilt will stick with him and he shall receive his punishment because he can't escape it.
